One of the great delights of dolls and toys as collectables is that you can have such fun displaying them in scenes and dioramas. I don’t have enough room to have all my dolls in scenes, but when I can, I love setting them up that way.
Skipper’s Dream Room is a wonderful location for a Christmas display, and in my home, it is always Christmas in the Dream Room. Skipper is happy to share her room with her friends Skooter and Ricky, her siblings Tutti and Todd and their friends Chris and Carla, who came all the way from Europe to celebrate. Bringing their toys along for Christmas morning are the Pretty Pairs – Angie n Tangie, Lori n Rori, and Nan n Fran. Several kiddles usually find their way in as well. The littlies seem so happy with their gifts and toys! This also means I collect miniatures for them to play with – mini dolls, boxes, NRFB outfits, games and toys which are to scale. We recently upgraded to a new Christmas tree which has lights and can rotate, so they are sitting, fascinated by it. (Special thanks to Clare Duncan of Clare’s Couture for the tree skirt- https://www.facebook.com/ClaresCouture). On another shelf is a smaller Christmas tree for the Little Kiddles and friends, plus some Kelly-size dolls from the Wizard of Oz series.
Useful display accessories are platforms and risers of various heights to allow better viewing of the small dolls and items. (If you like Ferrero Rocher chocolates, their plastic boxes work well – a good excuse to eat more of them!). I also have LED puck lights which are remote-controlled so I can brighten up the displays to show more details and items at the rear of the shelves. Hallmark have made some fabulous Barbie-themed decorations, including miniature vintage hatboxes and cases (complete with doll and outfit), lunchboxes, thermos and games. Basic Fun keychains include mini versions of classic games such as Mousetrap, Barrel full of Monkeys, Cluedo and Scrabble, which are very close to the right scale for the kids to play with.
